Pierre Clermontel is of counsel based in the Paris office. Mr. Clermontel was previously Managing Partner of the firm’s Paris office. He has broad experience in corporate finance, capital markets transactions and mergers & acquisitions. Mr. Clermontel frequently advises issuers and lead managers in connection with IPOs and global offerings. He is also regularly involved in French and cross-border mergers & acquisitions and in acquisition finance transactions.
Since joining in 2000 to develop Debevoise’s Capital Markets practice, Mr. Clermontel has not ceased to impress his clients and peers. He has been listed among France’s leading capital markets practitioners by Expert Guides. Who’s Who Legal France (2014 and 2015) described him as “highly prominent” and “a leading expert on public offerings as well as investment grade and high yield debt.” He has also been praised for his “excellent abilities.” The Legal 500 Europe, Middle East and Africa (2014) described him as “technically very competent and ‘creative’.” He was also hailed by Chambers Global as a “genius” and credited with being responsible for the group’s “unstoppable ascension.” According to the 2013 edition of Chambers Global and Chambers Europe, he is “pragmatic and able to quickly understand what the client needs.” Mr. Clermontel has been ranked as a leading individual for Capital Markets: Equity (France) in Chambers Global (2017) and Chambers Europe (2017). Mr. Clermontel is a member of the Paris Bar. He has published numerous articles relating to legal developments affecting financial markets and stock exchange regulations. Recent articles include “Debevoise Discusses When to Disclose a European Deal,” The CLS Blue Sky Blog (May, 2019) and “French Bankruptcy Law Becomes More Creditor Friendly,” Pratt’s Journal of Bankruptcy Law (July/August, 2014). He has also published a practical guide of IPOs and a book relating to financial markets: Le Droit de la Communication Financière, (Préface Nicolas Molfessis), Editions Lextenso (2009).
Prior to joining Debevoise in 2000, Mr. Clermontel worked with the French Commission des Opérations de Bourse and then with Linklaters, where he was a partner in the Paris office. Mr. Clermontel holds a DEA in Business Law and completed his education at the City University of New York.
