Gavin Chesney is a solicitor advocate in the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group and is based in the London office. His practice focuses on international commercial disputes, both in international arbitration and in court litigation.
Mr. Chesney represents a wide variety of clients including major corporations, high net worth individuals and sovereign states in a range of complex, high-value disputes across sectors including mining, power, oil and gas, defense and financial services. He has appeared in proceedings under the auspices of ICSID, UNCITRAL, the ICC, the LCIA, the SIAC and the AAA, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations and litigation proceedings in the English courts.
Mr. Chesney is recommended for International Arbitration by The Legal 500 UK (2024), where clients have noted he “understands technical concepts very quickly, and breaks down complex issues and articulates them clearly.” He also has experience in the construction sector, for which he has been recognised by The Legal 500 UK. In the guide, he is praised for having “a great facility for understanding the detail of construction costs and collecting these into clear submissions.” Mr. Chesney is also recognised as a Future Leader by Who’s Who Legal (2024).

Mr. Chesney joined the firm in March 2012. He received his B.A. from the University of Oxford, Trinity College, where he was the Wyatt Rushton scholar. Mr. Chesney holds a Dîplome Supérieur en Droit Français from the Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas. Mr. Chesney is admitted as a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales and as a solicitor advocate exercises full rights of audience before all civil courts of England & Wales.
