Yusuke Iwata is an international lawyer in the Litigation Department.

Mr. Iwata joined Debevoise in 2024. From 2018 to 2023, he worked as an associate on dispute resolution for Japanese and international clients at Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, a leading Japanese law firm.

Mr. Iwata received his LL.B from the University of Tokyo in 2015, his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Tokyo School of Law in 2017, his legal training and research institute diploma from the Legal Training & Research Institute of the Supreme Court of Japan in 2018 and received his LL.M. in International Business Regulation, Litigation and Arbitration from New York University School of Law with a Dean’s Graduate Award in 2024.

He has co-authored chapters in industry publications. These include “Modernising and streamlining the Japanese arbitration landscape,” Global Arbitration Review: The Asia-Pacific Arbitration Review 2024 (May, 2023); the Japan chapter in the Global Arbitration Review: The Asia-Pacific Arbitration Review 2023 (May, 2022); and "The Rise of Japan Arbitration: A Balance to the Common Law Forces of International Arbitration in Asia?," Kluwer Arbitration Blog (July, 2021).

Mr. Iwata is admitted to practice law in Japan. He is fluent in Japanese and English.
