Sonja Sreckovic is an associate based in London and a member of the International Dispute Resolution Group. Her practice focuses on international arbitration and public international law.
Ms. Sreckovic joined Debevoise in 2015. She has represented a range of clients on a variety of contentious matters, including investor-state arbitrations, public international law disputes and high-value commercial arbitrations.
Ms. Sreckovic has experience across multiple jurisdictions (notably Central and Southeast Europe, Russia and Africa) and a number of industries including mining, telecommunications and energy. She has acted in a range of commercial disputes, including those arising out of joint venture, shareholder, licensing and distribution agreements. She has experience of international arbitration under the main arbitral institutions, including the ICC, LCIA, NIAC and ICSID, and ad hoc arbitral proceedings under UNCITRAL rules. Ms. Sreckovic is recommended for international arbitration by The Legal 500 UK (2024) and she is recognised as a Future Leader by Who’s Who Legal (2024).
Ms. Sreckovic has also advised clients before international and regional human rights bodies, including the United Nations and the European Court of Human Rights. In particular, she has advised private individuals on claims arising under the European Convention of Human Rights (“ECHR”) and claims relating to violations of women’s rights under the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (“CEDAW”). Ms. Sreckovic is a member of several international arbitration organizations, including the Young International Council for Commercial Arbitration (“Young ICCA”) and the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”).
Ms. Sreckovic holds an LL.B. from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Law (where she graduated with Dean’s Honours in 2010), and obtained an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University School of Law in 2014, where she attended as a Global Hauser Scholar.
Ms. Sreckovic was admitted to the New York Bar in 2015 and was admitted as a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales in 2017. She is fluent in Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian and Montenegrin.
