Sebastian Briceno is an associate in the Litigation Department and a member of the International Dispute Resolution Group.Mr. Briceno has experience representing clients in commercial and Investor-State disputes across various industries, including energy, transportation, mining and construction. He has acted as counsel and tribunal’s assistant in arbitrations spanning multiple jurisdictions under the major arbitral rules such as ICSID, UNCITRAL and ICC. Mr. Briceno is an LL.M. graduate of Harvard Law School, where he was Vice-President of the Harvard International Arbitration Law Students Association and was awarded the Fondo Colombia-Harvard Scholarship. Mr. Briceno is both a lawyer and philosopher from Universidad de los Andes, and he has participated on executive educations programs on leadership for business results at Georgetown University and national and international arbitration at Bogota’s Chamber of Commerce. Prior to joining Debevoise, Mr. Briceno worked at the International Law Group of the Attorney General’s Office of Colombia and at the International Arbitration Group of a leading Colombian law firm.Mr. Briceno is a co-author of “Do’s & Don’ts of Opening Statements in International Arbitration,” Harvard International Arbitration Law Students Association Arbitration Review (July, 2024) and “Article V(1)(e) of the New York Convention,” included in the book International Commercial Arbitration: Analysis of The New York Convention on The Occasion Of Its 60th Anniversary (Ed. Eduardo Zuleta and Guido Tawil). He also co-authored the chapter “International Humanitarian Law” for the book Handbook of International Law (Ed. Universidad de los Andes). Mr. Briceno is the Co-Chair of the Latin American Association of Arbitration (ALARB) Next Generation Group and the Co-Director of Global Engagement of COLVYAP. He is also a member of ICC YAAF and Young ITA. Mr. Briceno is admitted to practice in Colombia and New York. He is a native Spanish speaker and fluent in English.
