Debevoise & Plimpton LLP announced today that Matthew Delja has returned to the firm as counsel* in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group. Mr. Delja joins from TPG, a leading global alternative asset management firm and a Debevoise client. At TPG, he served as Deputy General Counsel (Registered In-House Counsel in California) for its Growth, Rise and Rise Climate Funds, focusing on growth equity, social impact and climate investing. His arrival follows the addition of M&A partner Aly Love Simons earlier this month, further enhancing the firm’s transactional capabilities on the West Coast.
A former Debevoise associate, Mr. Delja brings substantial experience advising both private equity and strategic clients on a range of matters, including growth equity, minority investments, joint ventures and cross border deals. His practice will focus on a number of sectors, including technology, software and climate assets, throughout all stages of their M&A activity.
“We are increasingly seeing our asset manager clients expand their growth strategies as a way to deliver strong returns for their investors,” said Michael Diz, co-chair of the firm’s M&A Group. “Matthew’s proven track record working alongside some of the world’s most prolific growth investors strengthens our ability to advise our clients on these and other investments.”
Mr. Delja joins the firm’s rapidly growing San Francisco office, which, in addition to Ms. Love Simons, recently welcomed two prominent litigators – white collar partner Josh Cohen and commercial litigation partner Abe Tabaie – in July. The office, which Debevoise opened in September 2021, comprises lawyers across a broad range of practices, including M&A, private capital fund formation, white collar and regulatory defense, data strategy and security, and technology litigation.
Mr. Delja received his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2013, his M. Phil. from the University of Cambridge, St John’s College in 2008 and his B.A. from Loyola Marymount University in 2007.
The Debevoise M&A Group consistently leads transactions for some of the world’s most prominent corporations, financial services institutions and private equity firms. Debevoise clients receive the hands-on, personal attention of sophisticated M&A partners who have broad experience in public and private M&A and specialize in complex, multifaceted transactions. Intense partner focus, a blend of practice breadth, specialization and teamwork, and a rigorous dedication to quality define the way that Debevoise handles M&A assignments.
