Michael Bolotin is a partner and a member of the firm’s Tax Department and Special Situations team. His practice focuses on public and private M&A transactions across many industries, including asset managers, business services, healthcare, industrials and technology, private equity fund formation and real estate. Mr. Bolotin’s recent experience includes acting for clients such as Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, Kelso & Company, Prudential Capital Partners, Stone Point Capital and TPG.

Mr. Bolotin is ranked in Chambers USA (2024), where clients note “he has very strong technical skills and an excellent commercial sense.” In previous editions of the guide, he is said to be “outstanding,” “fantastic” and “a great tax lawyer who is very level-headed, calm and terrific,” “on the ball, responsive and client-focused.” He is also recognized as a Leading Lawyer for U.S. tax in The Legal 500 US (2024) and recommended for international tax. Clients have noted that he is “practical, commercial” and he offers “thoughtful solutions to complex issues.” Sources have also said that he is an “incredibly knowledgeable and practical go-to person on complex international tax matters.” Mr. Bolotin advised on Chrysaor Holdings’ acquisition of a diversified North Sea oil and gas portfolio from Shell. This deal was named by the European Tax Awards as the “European Energy Tax Deal of the Year” (2018).

Mr. Bolotin joined Debevoise in 2004. He received his B.A. from Columbia University in 2001 and his J.D. magna cum laude from New York University in 2004, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
