Emma Macfarlane is a litigation associate and a member of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group. She is based in the New York office and her practice focuses on public international law and international arbitration.

Ms. Macfarlane joined Debevoise in 2022. From 2021-2022, she was a Judicial Fellow under Her Excellency Judge Hilary Charlesworth at the International Court of Justice in the Hague.

Ms. Macfarlane received a J.D. from Michigan Law in 2021, where she was awarded the William W. Bishop Jr. Award for performing with distinction in the field of international law, the Kouba Prize for best paper on International Peace and Security, the Michigan Journal of International Law Award for Outstanding Scholarly Contribution, and the prize for first place in the regional Vis International Commercial Arbitration competition. She was selected as a Geneva International Fellow for UNHR, in which capacity she represented two States before the UN Human Rights Council, and as a Legal Fellow for the International Commission of Jurists. Ms. Macfarlane received a B.A. from McGill University in 2016.

Ms. Macfarlane is a member of the New York bar.
