Bruce D. Haims is a retired partner with Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and a former head of the firm’s Tax Department from 1993 to 2004. He provided personal and business tax advice to high-net-worth individuals. Mr. Haims also handled tax controversies for these clients.

Mr. Haims is the author of “‘Incubator’ Pay: A Director’s Guide”, (Director’s Monthly, November 2000), with Alan M. Institute on Federal Taxation, Chapter 23, 1990) and is the co-author of “Restructuring the Overleveraged Company” (48 Tax Notes 91, July 1990), with Ann G. Schaumberger. He has also written and lectured on integrating personal tax planning in business transactions, tax planning for entertainers and executive compensation and lectured at the N.Y.U. Tax Institute on bankruptcy and workouts, and tax audit procedures. Mr. Haims is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the New York State Bar Association.

Mr. Haims was recommended as a leading tax lawyer in PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook 2008, Euromoney’s Guide to the World’s Leading Tax Advisors (2008, 2012), Chambers USA (2009), Chambers Global  (2008-2009), The Legal 500 U.S. (2007) and Who’s Who in American Law (2008).

Mr. Haims joined Debevoise in 1967 and became a partner in 1973. He received his B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1962 and his LL.B. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1965, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review. Mr. Haims also received an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 1972.

Mr. Haims is a director of The Jeffrey Company, the Axe-Houghton Foundation and the After School Arts Program (ASAP) in Washington, CT, as well as a member of the Community Board of New Milford Hospital.
