Aisling Cowell is a litigation associate based in the London office. She is a member of both the firm’s White Collar and Regulatory Defense Group and the Data Strategy & Security practice. She advises companies on managing cybersecurity, operational resilience, law enforcement and data privacy risks, and related incident response, internal investigation and regulatory defence work. Ms. Cowell’s practice focuses on regulatory, criminal and internal investigations, with experience of conducting complex international anti-corruption investigations and advising on compliance matters for large multinational companies. She has significant experience advising clients on the UK Bribery Act, the Proceeds of Crime Act, money laundering regulations and related compliance matters.

Ms. Cowell also acts for clients across a wide range of industries, supporting them in responding to cybersecurity incidents, including nation state threat actors, business email compromises, and ransomware. She has particular experience in large-scale, multi-jurisdictional and complex incident response matters, and law enforcement engagement. She also advises companies on privacy matters, data privacy risks, incident response, and engagement with international regulators.

Ms. Cowell joined Debevoise as an associate in 2019, having previously practised at the Bar of England & Wales. She received an LL.B. from Durham University and was awarded the Durham Award. Ms. Cowell then completed her Bar Professional Training Course and was the recipient of the Excellence Award and the Advocacy Award, and the Middle Temple Pupil Advocacy Prize.

Ms. Cowell was called to the Bar of England & Wales and as a barrister has rights of audience before all courts and tribunals in England & Wales. In self-employed practice, she defended and prosecuted in a wide variety of criminal and regulatory cases.
