Debevoise & Plimpton LLP announced today that Jeff Sullivan KC will join the firm on July 1, 2023, as a London partner in its market leading International Dispute Resolution Group. Mr. Sullivan will also be Co-Chair of International Arbitration in Europe at Debevoise.
Mr. Sullivan will join Debevoise in July, after completing work on a legacy matter.
Mr. Sullivan is one of the market’s leading and most respected advocates, representing clients from a range of sectors and regions in commercial and investor-state arbitrations before all the major arbitral institutions. He also regularly sits as an arbitrator, and advises clients in all aspects of public international law, with a particular focus on disputes in the energy, extractive industries and infrastructure sectors. He has also advised nation states in Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East on the negotiation and drafting of trade and investment treaties.
Mr. Sullivan’s arrival in July will mean Debevoise will then count two King’s Counsel in its London team, the other being Lord Goldsmith KC.
“We have seen continued strong demand from multinational corporations, private equity sponsors and governments for counsel on the most complex international disputes and evolving issues of public international law,” said Peter Furci, Presiding Partner at Debevoise. “Jeff’s arrival will bolster our ability to meet the needs of these clients, and as a respected leader in his field for some years, he will be a significant addition to our team in London.”
Lord Goldsmith KC, Chair of European and Asian Litigation at Debevoise, said, “I am delighted Jeff will be joining me as Co-Chair of International Arbitration in Europe later this year. He is a market leader with a prodigious understanding of energy and infrastructure disputes. His experience in renewable energy disputes is particularly impressive. I am certain that our clients will greatly benefit from his arrival, as will our wider team. I am very much looking forward to working with him”
Mr. Sullivan added, “Debevoise has always had an enviable reputation in international arbitration and public international law. Its team is a ‘who’s who’ of the area, and its next generation of leaders are already making waves. It is an exciting time to join the practice, and I am looking forward to getting started in July.”
Mr. Sullivan is a Member of the ICC UK Arbitration & ADR Nominations Committee, a member of the Energy Charter Treaty Secretariat’s Legal Advisory Task Force, an Executive Board Member of the European Federation for Investment Law and Arbitration, and an Executive Committee Member of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy.
