Shannon Selden Discusses the Fight for Reproductive Rights with MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell

13 October 2021

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP litigation partner Shannon Rose Selden appeared on MSNBC’s “The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell” to discuss the US DOJ’s challenge to Texas’s abortion ban, and our work opposing the law on behalf of 19 of the nation’s leading medical organizations.  With Debevoise’ s help, the medical organizations – including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics – filed an amici brief urging the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to enjoin the law, arguing that it endangers patient health, contravenes core principles of medical ethics, and meaningfully exacerbates already deep inequities in reproductive health care.

In the segment, Ms. Selden discusses how SB 8 violates the core principles of medical ethics and patient-provider relationships, the constitutional principles at stake in the DOJ’s case, and some of the many ways the law threatens the health and well-being of women and girls throughout Texas.
