On June 21, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP hosted a webinar discussion with U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono, who represents Hawaii, as part of the Firm’s InConversation Speaker Series. During the webinar, Senator Hirono shared her journey as the first Asian American woman and only immigrant serving in the U.S. Senate, and spoke about how her experiences have shaped her perspectives on public service and her commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusivity. Senator Hirono also discussed the ways in which she uses her voice to push her agenda forward on the Senate floor, the importance of solidarity within historically underrepresented groups, and tips for women to advance in their careers.
The firm’s Presiding Partner, Michael Blair, introduced Senator Hirono and the discussion was moderated by Debevoise associates Amy Aixi Zhang and Dan Alford.
In 2020, Debevoise launched the InConversation Speaker Series as part of a broader effort to enrich our collective understanding of the impact that race, racism and bias have on our lives, our institutions and our relationships with one another. Recent speakers have included Pulitzer Prize winner and National Humanities Medal recipient Isabel Wilkerson, The African Center CEO Uzodinma Iweala and screenwriter and director Lulu Wang.
