Debevoise & Plimpton LLP litigation partners Mary Jo White, Andrew Ceresney and Jonathan Tuttle have been named to the 2020 Securities Docket’s “Enforcement 40”, recognizing the 40 best and brightest securities enforcement defense lawyers. With three lawyers on this year’s list, no firm had a greater presence on the “Enforcement 40” than Debevoise. Securities Docket describes the list as an effort to answer the question, “Who would you hire if you, your company or a family member was faced with an important SEC enforcement matter?”
Ms. White is Senior Chair of the firm and leader of the firm’s Strategic Crisis Response and Solutions Group. Her practice focuses on counseling boards of directors and representing clients on significant and sensitive matters, including companies facing crises involving multi-faceted government investigations and cases. Ms. White previously served as the Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Mr. Ceresney, Co-Chair of the Litigation Department, represents public companies, financial institutions, asset management firms, accounting firms, boards of directors, and individuals in federal and state government investigations and contested litigation in federal and state courts. He was previously the Director of Enforcement at the SEC.
Mr. Tuttle is a litigation partner who focuses on enforcement investigations and proceedings, as well as securities class actions, shareholder derivative suits, internal corporate investigations and a variety of other securities and finance-related litigation and regulatory matters. He has significant experience investigating accounting issues and advising companies, boards and audit committees with respect to the many complicated issues that can arise in such investigations.
Debevoise’s award winning White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group, which was recently ranked second in Global Investigation Review’s annual ranking of the world’s leading investigation practices, excels in complex representations for clients facing corporate crises. The Group, which has been involved in some of the most significant investigations and resolutions over the past few years, has a depth of experience and global reach that allows for effective and strategic counsel with international and domestic clients, from defending against criminal prosecutions and civil enforcement actions, to conducting internal investigations, negotiating complex global settlements and facilitating cooperation with government regulators. In addition to the partners named to the “Enforcement 40”, Debevoise partners with extensive experience in SEC matters include Kara Brockmeyer, Arian June, Robert Kaplan and Julie Riewe.
