Debevoise & Plimpton LLP partner Jyotin Hamid has been named Chair, effective this fall, of the New York City Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Committee, after having served as a Committee member in two prior three-year terms.
The Labor and Employment Law Committee addresses the multitude of laws governing employee-employer, union-management, and union-employee relationships, including federal, state and local non-discrimination laws, wage and hour laws, the National Labor Relations Act, and leave laws such as the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Recent topics addressed by the Committee include legal issues arising from employee terminations; legal developments concerning credit and background checks in the hiring process; strategies for litigating non-compete and other restrictive covenants disputes; employee privacy rights and employer restrictions on employee use of social media; ethics in employment law; the impact of the Affordable Care Act on employers and employees; the impact of recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions on class actions and mandatory arbitration of employment disputes; recent NLRB challenges to social media policies; and best practices for mediation of employment disputes.
Mr. Hamid, a partner in Debevoise’s New York office, is a seasoned litigator with extensive courtroom experience. He handles a diverse array of complex litigation matters, with particular focus on employment-related disputes. He has successfully handled numerous discrimination, whistleblower, contract, compensation and corporate raiding litigations involving high-level executives in a broad range of industries.
